Ever since Marilyn Monroe was seven years old, then known as Norma Jeane, she kept a publicity still of Clark Gable and fantasized that he was her father. "I used to always think of him as my father. That’s how I wanted my father to look."

In 1954 Marilyn met Clark Gable at a party to celebrate the completion of The Seven Year Itch. Marilyn and Clark danced together, twice, and then talked about the prospect of making a picture together.
Six years later they worked side by side in what was the last completed film for the both of them. It was titled ‘The Misfits’


Clark Gable hugs Judy Garland at an informal birthday party in his honor on the set of Test Pilot, where the young star sang a version of her song “Dear Mr. Gable.” To add to the celebration, Gable had also just been officially crowned “King of Hollywood” by Ed Sullivan and the New York Daily News—a title that epitomizes him to this day.
